This meeting at Doomben on Saturday will be affected by rain for sure. It was wet in Brisbane on Wednesday and more rain has fallen since.
With that in mind want to find some things that have handled it in the past and are fit. One that fits the bill is Primal Flight in Race 6.
This 3yo has been very powerful in both his runs this time in at Eagle Farm, winning by five and six lengths respectively.
He is bred to swim being by Flying Spur out of an End Sweep mare and having had two runs back he will be up near the speed and away from the backwash of the mud coming back.
We should get a little better than currently quoted at around the 5-4 mark but we do like it when they put gaps on rivals.
Another who should like it damp is Brian Smith’s Elusive Storm in Race 2. She was only able to win by a nose first up but that was a good sign that she is in fine fettle.
She stays in F&M grade and draws inside again so assuming the fence is OK, she’s in the right position.
Many of her wins are in wet going or worse case have been placed so if the price holds up, you can back her each way.
The one we are not confident about this week is Secret Garden who looks to be too short in the 2100m race.
This mare has been around the mark recently in a series of these types of races but is in no way dominant. While a heavy track winner previously, her last few on the affected ground have been not too pretty.
Happy to think the odds that are up on her are too short in such an even race of many chances.
