Best From The West - 2014 Super Saturday

3 minute read

The Perth Summer Racing Carnival kicks into overdrive on Saturday, with a cracking nine race-card headed by both the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes and Group 1 Railway Stakes.

There is a total of 124 acceptors across the program, setting up a number of key betting opportunities.

The unbeaten Disposition appears poised to salute in the Group 2 W.A. Guineas, with the son of Reset continuing to raise the bar with each career start.

Disposition's performance in the Fairetha Stakes was simply outstanding after he overcame the pattern of day, when coming from near last in the feature event.

His closing sectionals were very impressive and he is expected to only improve further stepping up to the mile.

The overall time of the event, was marked marginally quicker than Magnifisio, giving a further push for the strength of the performance.

Currently installed a 6-4 chance, appears a more than fair gamble as if priced aggressively, we have him installed the odds-on favourite.

Outlaw Pete didn't have a lot of luck last start and expect him to bounce back on Saturday, but hard to see him turning the tables on Disposition.

William Pike is in superb form this season and expect this trend to continue in the first Group race of the afternoon.

Five eastern raiders take their place in the Winterbottom Stakes, in what is shaping as a strong renewal of the feature sprint.

The Robbie Griffiths trained Angelic Light has returned in superb form this season and appears well placed to break through for her maiden Group 1 success.

She beat Lankan Rupee first up and has since held that form, having only been narrowly beaten in both the Moir and Manikato Stakes.

Favourites have won eight of the past 10 Winterbottom Stakes, including the last three.

Mares also possess a great record in the event, having won six of the last 21 (29%), while providing only 14% of the participants.

Two key historical trends, which read well for Angelic Light.

Currently installed a 2-1 chance appears more than fair as we have her rated closer to a 7-4 chance.

With little speed engaged, she should get a gun run just off the speed and looks to receive all the favours with Damien Oliver engaged.

Respect the chances of both Bel Sprinter and Sidestep, but happy to side with the in-form mare.

In the Railway Stakes, the Grant Williams trained Elite Belle presents good value at her current quote.

Though drawn poorly, she has returned in great order this time in and is yet to miss the money third up.

William Pike has placed in 11/16 attempts aboard the mare and she is unbeaten at the mile from three previous attempts.

Using Timeform weight adjusted ratings, Elite Belle appears well placed and is the second elect in our market at $5.50.

The Cleaner will ensure the race is run at a good solid tempo and expect Elite Belle to be working home strongly into the finish.

BET OF THE DAY (1): Race 6 #1 Disposition @ $2.50

BET OF THE DAY (2): Race 7 #13 Angelic Light @ $3.00

BET OF THE DAY (3): Race 8 #7 Elite Belle @ $7.50

Good luck and happy punting.
