Race by race Bunbury preview - Sunday, 29th December 2024

3 minute read

We head back to Bunbury this Sunday for eight races on an exciting card.

Don't miss a moment of the action from Bunbury this Sunday, with coverage live and free on 7Plus and Racing WA.

Race 1: OWN THE DREAM COMPETITION NOW OPEN MAIDEN (1100m)

ZIPPY ZANY (8) resumed with a solid effort for third at Pinjarra 4 weeks ago and has been a late scratching since then due to a small incident. She can make full use of the pole position and looks like the one to beat in this. SCENIC GEORGE (5) won a trial prior to a disappointing effort fresh up at Pinjarra 16 days ago when he needed the run. He will be spot-on second up and should improve quickly. CHAMPAGNE COAST (9) led for a long way on this track when resuming from a spell before weakening late and finishing third. She will be the one to peg back in this. LE BEAU (3) blew out when resuming from a spell here 3 weeks ago after winning a trial before that. There will be no fitness concerns this time and he can make amends. Each way.

Race 2: FLYN AND PETER NARKLE MAIDEN (1200m)

NORTH FACE (1) had a nice run fresh up on this track 10 days ago and only came to the end of his run late to finish second after looming large at the distance. He has more upside than most in this and with that run under his belt, he should make amends. Follow your money. LYN'S STAR (5) ran her best race last prep fresh up and will be a lot stronger this time in work. She has had a recent quiet trial and is the main threat to the top pick if there is one. ZED HOT EXPRESS (10) is making her debut and won the latest of 2 public trials. Clint Johnston-Porter retains the ride and if not too green, she can make her presence felt. SHINE AND BURN (7) was close up on debut and then battled away fairly at her next run. She is having her third start for the month and is worth including in all combinations.

Race 3: NIXON ELECTRICAL MAIDEN (1400m)

LAVISH CHARM (3) has changed stables since his last start here 3 weeks ago where he ran on late to finish fifth after missing the kick. He has a good draw and will relish the extra furlong on offer. Clint Johnston-Porter will suit him and the pair merit healthy respect. WHO SAZ YES (8) was runner-up at long odds when resuming from a spell and followed that effort up with another second-place finish here last week. She has a tougher draw this time but another sound effort can still be expected. Each way. BOSS HOLIDAY (1) travelled nicely in the run here last time out and just peaked on his effort late. He is better placed over the shorter trips for now and can have a say in the top 3 this time. RUNAWAY WINSTON (2) resumes from a spell for a new trainer and has the blinkers on for the first time. She would have strengthened up over her spell and shows enough to say that a maiden win is well within reach this prep.

Race 4: DONNYBROOK GLASS MAIDEN (1690m)

EXTRA ZERO (5) challenged hard down the home straight at Narrogin 8 days ago and just came up short after racing greenly under pressure. He is drawn to receive the perfect run early on and has 2.5kg less to carry this time. He has the winkers on for the first time and is capable of going one better this time. BATTLE ON BATTLER (6) has been mixing his form and ran his best race to date when finishing runner-up by a short-head here 10 days ago. He meets a similar field and should be right in the fight again. NOBLE CONNECTION (8) is improving all the time and was second here 10 days ago over 1400m when hitting the line strongly. The extra 290m is ideal and he should pick up a win at short notice. DECISION MAKER (7) ran on late when finishing third at Pinjarra over 2000m just over 2 weeks ago. He is likely to settle back and if the pace is genuine, he can run into the money again. Each way.

Race 5: CASH4CANS HANDICAP (1690m)

WHY ME (5) looked the winner when he hit the front here 10 days ago before being run over late and finishing third, he meets a similar field and with the right run, he can take this out. PLAYING QUEST (4) ran on late fresh up when finishing fifth and then improved to win his next start 2 weeks later on this track by a head. The extra 290m here will suit him and he has the scope to make it 2 wins on the bounce. FULL OF MERIT (1) ran out of puff here last time out after leading into the home straight, finishing sixth. That was her first run in 6 weeks and she needed it. She will be spot-on this time and can take them all the way. I'M NIPOTE (2) ran on too late at Pinjarra last time out over 1300m. He is trying a longer distance for the first time and should be thereabouts in an even contest.

Race 6: SWAN DRAUGHT HANDICAP (1000m)

SANTANOVA (4) was third on debut here and then improved quickly 11 days later to score comfortably by over a length. She must be tough as she is lining up for the third time in a month and another win is on the cards. KIA ORA TATOU (1) won fresh up last prep and will be even stronger this prep. She was a late scratching a fortnight ago after getting loose before the start. The blinkers are on for the first time and he is ready to run a race. Watch closely. TWIGGER (2) raced fiercely outside the leader fresh up on this track 10 days ago and after hitting the front, was only claimed on the line, finishing runner-up by a nose. He strips fitter and can go one better. SPEEDY NOVA (6) has been thereabouts in 4 starts this season and can make full use of the pole position. She has been placed in 3 of her 4 starts on the course and is worth including in al combinations.

Race 7: GEOGRAPHE FORD HANDICAP (1100m)

ANOTHER STRIKE (1) should have finished a lot closer than sixth when resuming from a spell at Ascot just over 3 weeks ago in a stronger field. He strips fitter and steps up from 1000m to 1100m. He may already be looking for further but in a far easier assignment, he can finish all over the top of his rivals this time. WICKED VENOM (2) rattled home late to finish sixth at Ascot last time out over this distance. He gets a big swing in his draw this time and was only beaten by a nose at Belmont in his penultimate start. Hard to beat. ORACLE SON (3) is racing better than his form suggests and he probably should have won his penultimate start on this track. The blinkers are off and he is ready to put his best hoof forward. OUR MATE ARCHIE (5) won 2 of his 3 starts last prep and is resuming from a brief spell with a trial under his belt. He has scope and from a good draw, can't be ignored.

Race 8: YOUVE GOT THE TABtouch HANDICAP (1200m)

VILLAGE GIRL (1) has been thereabouts in all 3 runs back from a spell and is not having much luck with her draws. She cops another tricky gate but does drop right down in class and with a touch of luck is the one to beat. Stick with her. SCHUHBECK (12) has turned his recent form around with a couple of solid efforts in the country and now that his confidence is up, he can figure in the finish again. DELTA ANNE (7) only battled late here last time out in a tougher field and is dropping right back to a sprint trip this time. She will get back early from a wide gate and should be hitting the line hard. Watch for her late. AFTER PARTY (9) ran a better race second up here 3 weeks ago and will be peaking third up from a spell. Each way value in this company.
